Ryzex RoHS Statement
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive seeks to reduce the environmental impact of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) waste by reducing the amount of six toxic substances commonly used in the manufacture of these products (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium and two types of flame retardants). Since July 1, 2006 EEE that does not comply with RoHS cannot be placed on the EU market.

The European Commission has stated that one of the goals of the directive is to prolong the useful life of the EEE that was in use prior to RoHS taking effect. The directive also allows for the resale and reuse of product that was placed on the market prior to July 1, 2006.

Ryzex is uniquely positioned to assist customers in navigating the changes and challenges posed by the RoHS directive. Ryzex can supply refurbished products for legacy installations of barcode, wireless data collection, and RFID systems. Ryzex can provide maintenance and repair services for products affected by RoHS.

What is RoHS?
The implementation of the European Union Directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) took effect July 1, 2006.

RoHS has the potential to significantly impact your business.

The RoHS Directive seeks to reduce the environmental impact of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) waste by reducing the amount of six toxic substances commonly used in the manufacture of these products (Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium and two types of flame retardants).

Since July 1, 2006 EEE that does not comply with RoHS cannot be placed on the European Union (EU) market

What are the potential business impacts?
The RoHS Directive can impact current installations of mission-critical systems in cases where the manufacturer of the equipment has discontinued production of the product, electing to no longer manufacture RoHS compliant versions.

In this case, when a company seeks to expand, replace or repair equipment in a current installation base they will be unable to obtain product or parts from the manufacturer.

This forces the users of these discontinued products to upgrade an entire system significantly ahead of schedule. Obviously, financial and manpower impact could be significant if your company has not budgeted or forecasted the change.

However, the RoHS Directive and the complementary WEEE Directive were not intended to prematurely accelerate the de-installation or obsolescence of products containing these toxic substances.

To the contrary, the European Commission has stated that one of its goals is to prolong the life of the current installation base. The directive also allows the resale and reuse of product previously on the market *

*These exemptions are stated in the Frequently Asked Questions for the European Union's RoHS and WEEE Directive, section 1.8 & 1.9.
