In every industry pressure is building throughout the supply chain with the retailers driving down costs to try and save valuable margin in the ever-prominent price wars. This in turn has a knock-on effect down the supply chain with suppliers having to provide their products cheaper, faster and more efficiently than ever before.

This has led to an era of “retail compliance” where suppliers have to meet the retailers’ demands in terms of how product is delivered, the information supplied about the shipments and the way the shipments are identified.

In the past, suppliers were penalised for wrong deliveries or illegible barcode labels and just when many suppliers are getting their business reorganised to meet these demands along comes RFID.

Whether you are a retailer or a supplier one thing is for certain, you will undoubtedly have a heavy reliance on your automated data collection (ADC) hardware. If your barcode label printers fail you won’t be able to label your products for sale. If your data collection terminals fail you won’t be able to count the stock in your warehouse or store accurately, leaving you wide open to human error, and if your mobile computers fail your field sales or service people may have to resort back to old paper based systems having a dramatic impact on turnaround times.

These demands require that when your ADC hardware fails or gets damaged you need to get it fixed and returned to your operation in the quickest, most reliable way possible.
